Graduate Assistant

University Housing offers a number of graduate assistant (GA) positions each year.

Our timeline for selecting Graduate Assistants will be as follows:

  • Interest form application will open on Monday, Nov. 20.
  • Interest form application will close Friday, Jan. 26.
  • Candidates selected for virtual/On campus interviews will be notified by Friday, Feb. 2nd.
  • Virtual/On Campus interview days will be Feb. 22-23.
  • Offers will be sent to selected candidates by Wednesday, March 6.

Greek Housing

The function of the GA for Greek Housing is to support the mission of University Housing by working collaboratively with chapter presidents, residents and the assistant director for Greek Housing to oversee the day-to-day operations that will ensure facilities are safe, clean and maintained to the same standard as other campus living facilities.

The GA works with the chapter to maintain an environment that is conducive to the overall development of students and is supportive of the academic mission of the university.

GAs for Greek Housing will be expected to live in an apartment within one of our University-owned Greek Houses for the duration of their appointment.

Greek Housing Graduate Assistantship Package (50% appointment)

  • 12-month position
  • Partially furnished apartment with all utilities paid and a campus meal plan
  • $1,300 per-month stipend
  • $750/Year Professional development fund
  • Free local phone and internet
  • 24-hour parking permit (at student rate)
  • Tuition paid (A 50% graduate assistantship and six hours of credit class is considered fulltime graduate status)
  • Partially-funded student health insurance available

Support and Supervision

The function of the GA for Staff Support and Supervision is to support the mission of University Housing by working collaboratively with their assigned coordinator for resident education (CRE), residents and the assistant directors for residence education to oversee the day-to-day operations that will ensure facilities are safe, clean and maintained to the same standard as other campus living facilities.

The GA works with the CRE to maintain an environment that is conducive to the overall development of students and is supportive of the academic mission of the university.

The graduate assistant is required to live in the assigned facility.

Graduate Assistantship Compensation Package (50% appointment)

  • 12-month position
  • Housing provided on campus with all utilities paid and a meal plan when dining halls are open
  • $1,300 per-month stipend
  • Professional development funds available
  • Free local phone and internet
  • Tuition paid (A 50% graduate assistantship and six hours of credit class is considered fulltime graduate status)
  • Partially-funded student health insurance available

Welfare and Outreach

The function of the GA for student Welfare and Outreach is to work collaboratively with Housing staff to foster a healthy environment for students living on campus. This position specifically focuses on supporting the success of campus-wide mental and physical health initiatives through assisting hall staffs with monthly themed programming and events.

The GA for Student Welfare and Outreach will also contribute to the intellectual, social and physical development of students by assisting with wellness initiatives.

This will be done by representing the needs of the students to the administration and, in turn, upholding the mission and goals of the Division of Student Affairs and University Housing.

The graduate assistant is required to live in the assigned facility.

Student Leadership

The function of the GA for Student Leadership is to work with the Coordinator for Student Leadership to develop student leadership opportunities offered in the residence halls. This position has an emphasis on student leadership cultivation and advising and will work with other residence education staff to facilitate an environment that will contribute to the intellectual, social, physical and cultural development of the students.

The GA for Student Leadership articulates to the students the philosophy and policies of University Housing, the Division of Student Affairs, and the university, and in turn, represent and present the needs of the students to the administration.

This role is one of leadership, trust, and honor and contributes significantly to the personal growth and development of National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), Residents’ Interhall Congress (RIC), RA Senate and Lead Hogs.

The Graduate Assistant is required to live in the assigned facility.
