Coordinator for Residence Education Welcome Letter

Welcome to Yocum Hall! Residence Education is very committed to making sure that each residence hall at the University of Arkansas offers something unique and original to meet the needs of individual students. Yocum is no exception and the staff strives to excel at providing all the things that will help make your student's experience at the UA memorable and enjoyable!

In our building, we house approximately 525 students, primarily first-year students and upperclassmen, 15 Resident Assistants, and one professional Coordinator for Residence Education. As Yocum is located just a short walk across the street from the Walton College of Business and Kimpel Hall, it tends to attract a lot of the Business students. In Yocum the floors are traditional residence hall style with two residents per room, community bathrooms, and community study rooms on each floor. Additionally, each resident has a mailbox, each room has high-speed internet access, and the building has free laundry facilities. Yocum also houses the office of a Counselor in Residence, a Great Room, a Game Room, and a TV lounge that residents utilize on a regular basis.

We hope to provide students residing in Yocum with a foundation for academic and personal success at the University of Arkansas and beyond. We will help to guide them through the adjustments of college life, the new curriculum of their coursework and provide opportunities for them to get involved in their floor community, the hall community and the greater Fayetteville community. Yocum residents will have the opportunity to:

  • Establish a home away from home
  • Make connections through academic and social networks
  • Become more aware of and appreciate diversity on campus and how it applies to the global community
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Understand the importance of community responsibility

Yocum has developed several traditions and annual programs throughout the years. Some of these include competing in Homecoming, a Sock Assassins competition, a Spring Canoe Trip, the infamous Yocum T-Shirt, and a newly added Scavenger Hunt on the UA campus in order to introduce and familiarize students with their new home away from home.

We expect our residents to uphold the Principles of the University. The five ideals are Integrity, Mutual Respect, Inquiry, Citizenship, and Connection. We believe that these ideals are the foundation for creating a successful residential and campus community.

It is my hope that you will choose to live at Yocum Hall during your time at the University of Arkansas. Our staff strives to build a community of character and I believe you would find it a very enjoyable experience full of great memories waiting to happen! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Adam Stafford
Coordinator for Residence Education
