Named for James Edward Pomfret, the hall was opened in 1967. Mr. Pomfret served as the Vice-President for Business from 1958-1967. In the fall of 2002, Pomfret became Pomfret Honors Quarters, a designation continued in the B-Wing for freshmen students..

Home to approximately 750 students, Pomfret Hall is the single largest residence hall on the U of A campus. It features its own dining hall inside the building, two classrooms, meeting rooms, a music room, and a large lounge area.

Pomfret Hall consist of two parts: B-Wing and the Harold Hantz House (C & D-Wings). The B-Wing is a co-ed, eight-floor hall on the south end of the building. The Pomfret Arts Living-Learning Community is located in B-Wing.
