Coordinator for Residence Education Welcome Letter

Welcome to Maple Hill! Maple Hill South, located on the north end of campus beside Reid Hall.

University Housing is very committed to making sure that each residence hall at the University of Arkansas offers something unique and original to meet the needs of individual students. Maple South is no exception.

In our building, we house approximately 320 students, which includes first-year and sophmore students. We also house 7 Academic Success Resident Assistants and 4 Citizenship Resident Assistants, a profesional Coordinator for Residence Education, and a full-time secretary. We provide a wide variety of room choices to our residents which include four-person two-bedroom suites, three person supersuites, and four-person two bedroom loft suites. All of our supersuites and loft suites have leather furniture. Each room has cable and Ethernet connections. Maple South has soft-seating study rooms, conference rooms, laundry rooms, kitchenette/lounge areas which include 40-inch flat screen televisions, a luxurious parlor, and multipuporse classrooms with the new multimedia equipment. The Maple Hill Complex also features an enclosed courtyard with a multi-purpose stage.

Maple South also has a new in-hall dining option called "THE HILL" and a Club Red located on the first floor. "The Hill" will serve subs, burgers, pizza by the square foot, fries and more! There will also be a new coffee shop called "Pura Vida" and a "Freshens" which will serve frozen yogurt treats as well as smoothies with MET-Rx nutrition boosters.

We hope to provide students residing in Maple South with a foundation for academic and personal success at the University of Arkansas and beyond. Maple South residents will have the opportunity to:

  • Establish a home away from home
  • Make connections through academic and social networks
  • Become more aware of and appreciate diversity
  • Develope leadership skills
  • Understand the importance of community responsibility

Maple South will develope some brand new traditions, as this will be our first year to campus! We will also continue to build upon the traditions established for the complex including Homecoming, etc.

We expect our residents to uphold the Principles of the University. The five ideals are Integrity, Mutual Respect, Inquiry, Citizenship, and Connection. We believe that these ideals are the foundation for creating a sucessful residential and campus community.

It is my hope you will choose to live at Maple South during your first two years at the University of Arkansas. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Sincerely,

Maria R. Grothaus
Coordinator for Residence Education
