First known as Buchanan House and Droke House, the two names were later combined to form Buchanan-Droke Hall. Buchanan House was named for Dr. John L. Buchanan, the first president of the University of Arkansas. He served as President from 1894 until his death in 1902. Buchanan House was built and opened in 1955. Droke House was named for George Wesley Droke, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences until his death in 1925. Droke was an institution at the University for almost 50 years.

Buchanan-Droke is a three-story female freshmen residence hall with a large community room on the ground floor. Student rooms each have a ceiling fan, a window unit air conditioner, wireless network access and a cable outlet. Room dimensions are typically 12'-7" (W) X 13'-4" (L).

Buchanan-Droke was completely refurbished in 2010. Student rooms, public areas and restrooms were painted. New furniture, carpet and window blinds were placed in student rooms; new furniture was also being placed in the hall's common areas.

The Graduate Assistant apartment and front desk operation for the Buchanan-Droke, Gladson-Ripley area are located in Buchanan-Droke Hall.
