FAQ's from Study Abroad and Co-Op Students
Question: I am participating in a spring study abroad or co-op program. What do I need to do to arrange on-campus housing for when I return in the fall of next year?
Answer: Students who plan to return to on-campus housing after completing a spring study abroad or co-op program can begin submitting contracts and the $235 advance payments online when Priority Contracting begins. These students will be considered Priority Students and will choose their own rooms on Shop-N-Swap in March. Students are also able to use Roommate Profiler to make roommate bonds before choosing a room.
Question: I am currently living on campus, but I plan to participate in a study abroad or co-op program in the spring. What do I need to do about my spring housing when I leave?
Answer: Students who leave campus at the end of the fall semester to participate in a spring study abroad or co-op program should meet with the hall secretary to arrange appropriate checkout procedures. You will need to complete checkout paperwork and the Statement of Non-Enrollment form. As long as it can be confirmed in ISIS that you are not enrolled in on-campus classes, you will not be charged for spring room and board. If you complete the official checkout and leave your room in good condition, there should not be any additional charges.
Question: I am going to participate in a study abroad or co-op program in the fall, but I want to live on campus when I return in the spring. What do I need to do?
Answer: Students who will not return to campus until the spring semester will be able to contract and submit the $235 advance payment online when the spring housing contract becomes available. This contract typically becomes available late in the fall semester. As Shop-n-Swap will not be available to spring housing students, students may e-mail hall and roommate preferences to housing@uark.edu.
If you contracted during Priority Period and then found out that you will be in a co-op or study abroad program, you can send an e-mail to housing@uark.edu, requesting that your contract be changed to include only the spring term. You will need to include your hall and roommate preferences in this e-mail as well, although we cannot guarantee that we can meet your preferences.
Roommate requests must be mutual, so all requested roommates must email housing@uark.edu, requesting you to be their roommate.
