What to Bring With You
Prior to Check-in
- Complete Emergency Sheet online (click here).
- Contact roommate to discuss who is bringing what.
IMPORTANT: Do Not Use Trailers for Moving In
Vehicles with trailers create too much congestion in the parking lots for Move-In and you run the risk of damage to either your trailer, your vehicle or someone else's vehicle. Pack smart - bring only what you need!
For Check-in
- University ID Card
- Driver's License or state-issued ID
What to Bring
When going to college for the first time, students tend to bring more than they could ever need. Knowing this, we have created a list of items for you to bring, and a list of items that are prohibited in the halls.

All mattresses are standard twin: 36" by 75". A limited number of long mattresses are available upon request (see below). These are 36" wide by 80" long. Unless you specifically request a long mattress, there is no need to purchase long sheets for the mattresses on the University of Arkansas campus.
- Extra Long Mattresses
If you are more than 6 feet tall and would like to request a longer mattress, please contact University Housing by email. Include your name, student ID number, hall and room number and that you need a longer mattress. The long mattresses are provided on a first-come/first-served basis, so be sure to make your request as early as possible. The deadline for requesting an extra-long mattress for 2011 is July 1.
- Surge protector:
With all the electrical equipment that students tend to bring, it is a good idea to have at least one surge protector with an internal circuit breaker per roommate.
- Simple cleaning supplies: Maple Hill and Northwest Quad students will need to bring a trash can and liners for their bedrooms. Trash cans are provided in Northwest Quad suites in the bathrooms and common rooms.
Each hall is equipped with coin-free washers and dryers. Residents pay a one time laundry charge as part of their housing rate.
The Residence Hall Linen program is sponsored by the Residents' Interhall Congress (RIC) as a convenience to students and families. Proceeds from the sale of linens through Residence Hall Linens benefit RIC.
Optional Items
- Computer & printer: Every residence hall room has been equipped with high-speed Internet connections which means students can access the University network and the Internet right from their room. If you don't have a computer, there are several computer labs on campus.
- Electronic Safe: Students should consider using a safe to protect valuables such as laptops, jewelry, cash, credit cards, etc. If you do bring a safe, we recommend one that includes a tether so it can be looped through the bed frame or other large object, since you will not be able to bolt the safe in place.
- Desk lamp: NO HALOGEN BULB LAMPS
- Spare light bulbs: University Housing will only replace bulbs provided with your room
- Leisure electronics: Stereo, computer games, TV (bring a 15' to 20' TV cable), DVD player, etc.
- Portable iron (must include an automatic shut-off feature) & mini ironing board
- Pictures and Posters: Bring a little bit of home with you. When putting up posters, please use removeable adhesive strips (3M Command Strips) or white sticky tack (removeable poster putty) in Pomfret, Yocum, Humphreys, Futrall, Gibson, Gregson, Holcombe, and Reid Halls; please use "MonkeyHooks" in Maple Hill, NW Quad, and the Duncan Avenue Apartments.
- Plastic kitchen set: Plates, glasses, eating utinsels, manual can opener, your favorite coffee mug, paper towels. You may also want to have a water filtration pitcher and durable water bottle to save both money and the environment!
- Recreational equipment: Large games and intramural sports fields are located on the outskirt of campus, but students are invited to safely use any green space for recreation. The HPER facility also has a wide array of sports and recreation equipment and space available to students.
- Storage items: Stackable crates, drawers and boxes that will fit under the bed will help keep you organized and allow for efficient use of space.
Possible Appliances for Your Room
- Coffee makers and hot air popcorn poppers: Any UL approved coffee maker or popcorn popper may be used. Remember to unplug these items when not in use.
- Fans: Humphreys, the non-air-conditioned residence hall on campus, has a ceiling fan in each resident's room. We do not permit personal window or portable Air Conditioner units.
- Microwaves and Refrigerators: You may bring a refrigerator that does not exceed 5.0 cubic feet and has an Energy Star rating of 325 KWh/year or less. Micro-Fridges are available to rent through Collegiate Concepts.
