Living Learning Communities Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Living Learning Community?

A Living Learning Community (LLC) at the University of Arkansas provides extracurricular education, vibrant experiences, and real life exposure while cultivating strong future world leaders through collaborative residential community, faculty involvement, and student engagement.

Why should I participate?

Making the transition from high school to college can be challenging. At the University of Arkansas, we provide you with many resources and support. Your resident assistant (RA) is one way we support you. Your LLC RA will plan events throughout the year to help you with your transition. There will be a range of social and educational events offered to enhance your experience and provide opportunities for community engagement and development. Research shows students who get involved in LLCs are more likely to:

  • Have better retention percentages
  • Earn a higher GPA
  • Experience a greater degree of satisfaction with their overall college experience

How do I decide which LLC is best for me?

First, review the information here: If you have additional questions, please contact:

Is there any extra cost?

No! We understand the importance of these communities so University Housing does not charge additional costs for these communities.

How do I Apply?

You may apply for LLC during Phase II of your housing contracting process.

When will I know that I have been accepted?

Acceptance is on a “rolling basis”. Each week applications will be reviewed and acceptance will be communicated via your University of Arkansas email address. The length of time between when an application is received and when acceptance notifications are emailed will vary. The process depends on the number of applications received and the availability of the reviewers. Please give 7-10 business days to receive a response. You are not guaranteed acceptance into the LLC.

How will I know if I have been accepted to the program?

You will receive an email from the LLC Coordinator congratulating you on your acceptance.

When will I be able to select my roommate?

Since you are required to live with another LLC participant, you will be required to complete the personal profile section of the online housing contracting system. In this section, you will be able to indicate which LLC you have applied. We encourage you to complete the full personal profile so that you give perspective roommates enough information about you to match appropriately. To receive the optimal roommate selection experience, we encourage you to wait until April 30th to select a roommate. However, if the LLC fills prior to that date, you will be notified.

Will I be able to live with someone who is not in the LLC?

No, all LLC participants must live with another LLC participant.

If I am selected to be in an LLC, do I have to live in the building selected?

Yes, each LLC has selected a residence hall that is usually close in proximity to your appropriate academic building(s).

How much of a time commitment will living in a learning community require?

Each LLC has 2-3 programs monthly that we ask each participant to participate. The program/event could range between 1-2 hours depending on the activity.

How do I register for living learning community courses?

Once accepted, the LLC coordinator will contact you with information on how you register for your required courses that are affiliated with the community.
